Fortune No.40
Poem (The Oracle's Verse)
紅輪西墜兔東升,陰長陽消是兩形,若是女人占此卦,增添福祿稱心情
The red ring (sun) sets in the west and the rabbit (moon) rises in the east. The yin (yin) will increase and the yang (yang) will disappear. If a woman divines this oracle, she will be blessed with good fortune and her heart will be praised.
Story (Historical Background)
馬援女為皇后
Interpretation (Meaning of the Oracle)
陰利女人,不宜男子,若問求望,無憂後喜。此籤陰長陽消之象,凡事先難後吉。
The lottery is an elephant in which the yin is prolonged and the yang is extinguished, so that all things are first difficult and later favorable. In the beginning, trade, fortune seeking, and time are all unfavorable. However, through one's own efforts and painstaking knowledge, the day will come when one's head will finally emerge. Fortunately, the rice paddies are producing large harvests and the livestock industry is booming, and all of this is due to the blessings of my prayers. All of these are the result of prayers and blessings. In other words, yin is good for women and bad for men. If you ask for longing, it is a lot: without sorrow, joy will come later.

Explanation
[Summary] Exercise courtesy and filial piety. Observing morals, respecting others, and cherishing one's parents are the fundamentals of humanity.
This lot means "知禮盡孝". It indicates that all parties involved, whether male or female, should know the rules of etiquette and practice filial piety. Confucius said, "Do not look at rudeness, do not say rudeness, do not listen to rudeness, and do not move rudely. One should be disciplined in one's actions and behavior, and not overstep the bounds of propriety in anything. Do not watch current TV programs, movies, the Internet, or books that pollute your mind and body and give rise to delusions and evil thoughts. Do not talk about the shortcomings of others, do not boast about your own strengths, and do not pry into the secrets of others. When others gossip or speak of private matters, if it does not concern you, avoid them at a distance and do not listen to them. Do not do anything against morality and conscience. To be sincere, respectful, and considerate of others in all things is to know how to be courteous. To be filial is the foundation of a person's character, and one must never forget the debt of gratitude one owes to one's parents for their support. Do not worry about your parents in any way, and always be concerned, inquire, and pay attention to them. It is not limited to monetary offerings. To be courteous and filial is the foundation of morality, and it will not change even if the times change.
Practical Advice for Modern Life
The daughter of Ma Yuan becoming empress shows that courtesy cultivated at home works in larger arenas. Do not underestimate greetings to elders, consideration for parents and family, and daily manners. Love and marriage proceed more gently when you respect the other person’s background.
Recommended Deity & Prayer Advice
Pray to Guanyin Bodhisattva for harmony in family and relationships. Keep respect for both your family and the other side, not only your own wish.
Put your wish into words
In Taiwanese temples, worshippers traditionally introduce themselves and express their wishes clearly when praying. Use your fortune slip as a moment to put your own wish into words.
